Breast reduction surgery is a popular procedure that removes excess tissue, fat and skin from your breasts to make them appear smaller.

While many patients want larger breasts, some have been born with breasts that don’t suit their desired body shape. In this case, they will opt for breast reduction surgery.

Mr Andrew Pieri has carried out hundreds of breast reduction procedures, and during his initial consultation, he often finds that patients are keen to understand the costs involved. As such, he has put together this helpful guide on breast reduction costs.

How Much Does Breast Reduction Cost?

Breast reduction surgery costs depend on a range of factors and vary depending on the clinic you choose.

Mr Pieri’s breast reduction procedures start from £8000 for all aspects of your care and treatment.

The cost includes the initial consultation, which is priced at £200. If you don’t choose to go ahead with your breast reduction, then this is all you will pay.

If you decide to undergo breast reduction surgery, then you will need to pay the additional £7800. All prices provided are subject to change, but this provides a rough insight into how much you can expect to pay for your breast reduction procedure.

What Is Included In Your Breast Reduction Surgery Cost?

Our breast reduction surgery costs include all aspects of your care from the initial consultation through to post-surgery appointments:

  • Initial Consultation: The first consultation costs around £200, and allows you to talk to Mr Pieri about your expectations and what you aim to get from the procedure. You can then get a further free consultation to follow-up and deal with any additional questions you might have.
  • Pre-Assessment: The pre-assessment is performed by the hospital team, to ensure that you are fit for the operation and to check to see if there are any extra precautions required with your individual case.
  • Surgery: Breast reduction is a day-case procedure, meaning that you won’t usually have to stay at the hospital overnight. After Mr Pieri completes your surgery, you will spend some time in recovery and then will feel ready to return to the comfort of your own home. If you have any issues or questions after going home, Mr Pieri’s practice manager Helen (who is also a senior theatre nurse) can usually answer these but is in constant contact with Mr Pieri with any queries that you may have.
  • Follow-Up Wound Checks: Mr Pieri carries out a post-op wound check at 2 weeks. This is to remove the surgical dressings and check that the wound has healed well with no immediate complications.
  • Final Check-Up: The final consultation is carried out between 3 and 6 months post-operation and will allow Mr Pieri to review how the scars have settled and how the shape has formed (the breast shape often takes a couple of months to settle after surgery).

How Do You Qualify For A Breast Reduction On The NHS?

While breast reduction is usually classed as a cosmetic procedure, it is available on the NHS in some circumstances.

The NHS will only fund breast reduction surgery in cases where the size of the patient’s breast size is causing damage to their mental or physical health.

The criteria for getting a breast reduction on the NHS depends on the rules set out by your local integrated care board (ICB).

Some ICBs don’t fund breast reductions, while others will have specific criteria for breast reduction, including if your breasts cause back ache, shoulder pain or psychological distress.

If you think you might qualify for breast reduction surgery on the NHS, then you should speak to your doctor.

Anyone who can’t get a breast reduction on the NHS can use private clinics like Andrew Pieri’s to allow them to feel comfortable in their body.

Why Do Breast Reduction Surgery Costs Vary By Clinic?

Breast reduction prices vary depending on the clinic you use for a variety of reasons, including:

  • Location: Where the clinic is located has a major influence on the cost of your breast reduction procedure. While some overseas clinics might offer holidays and cosmetic surgery at an attractive price, make sure that both the clinic and surgeon are reputable and that the country has very robust clinical governance, like the UK. Learn more about overseas breast surgery by reading our guide to Breast Augmentation Turkey VS UK.

  • Additional Procedures: If implant removal needs to be carried out before the surgeon can remove the breast tissue, then this will mean that your procedure will take longer, and this may incur an additional cost. Also, if you combine breast reduction with other procedures, this can raise the price.

  • The Reputation And Track Record Of The Clinic And Staff: Clinics and breast surgeons with an exceptional track record are highly sought after and may charge more as a result.

  • How You Pay: Some clinics offer finance options, which can help you spread your breast reduction surgery cost. However, you may have to pay interest on the payments or a penalty for not paying on time, depending on the terms of the finance agreement.

What Is The Most Important Factor When Considering A Breast Reduction?

There are many factors to consider when making the decision to get a breast reduction and finding the right clinic. While cost is a key issue, you also need to think about finding the right breast surgeon to carry out the surgical procedure.

Working with a surgeon who has extensive experience carrying out breast reduction surgery and other procedures, such as breast augmentation, breast uplift surgery, and breast implant removal, is important.
