LABIAPLASTY

Our labiaplasty service gently reshapes enlarged or asymmetrical labia to reduce discomfort and improve confidence, while preserving natural sensation and a result that looks and feels like you.

Mr Andrew Pieri and his team offers labiaplasty for women who experience discomfort, irritation or self-consciousness due to the size or shape of their labia. With a sensitive, respectful approach, he tailors each procedure to your anatomy and priorities, aiming to relieve physical symptoms, improve confidence and maintain a natural, proportionate appearance.

What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure to reduce or reshape the labia minora (the inner lips of the vagina), and sometimes the labia majora, when they are enlarged, uneven or causing symptoms. Women may seek labiaplasty due to rubbing and soreness in clothing, discomfort during exercise or intercourse, or concerns about the appearance of the area.

The operation is usually performed under local anaesthetic with or without sedation, or under a short general anaesthetic if preferred. Excess tissue is carefully removed using either a trim or wedge technique, preserving the natural contour and pigmentation as far as possible. Fine dissolvable sutures are used so that no stitches need to be removed. The aim is to reduce bulk while maintaining sensitivity and function.

Labiaplasty is a personal choice and not a “one size fits all” procedure. A thorough consultation is essential to understand your concerns, assess your anatomy and explain what can realistically be achieved, so that any changes feel both comfortable and in proportion with the rest of your body.

What to Expect from Labiaplasty Surgery

Consultation & Preparation

  • Assessment & Planning:
During your consultation, Mr Andrew Pieri will discuss your symptoms and goals in a private, supportive environment. A gentle examination allows him to assess tissue size, symmetry and skin quality. Photographs may be taken for planning and to help explain what adjustments can be made while maintaining a natural appearance.

  • Pre-operative Guidelines:
You will be advised to avoid certain medications that increase bleeding risk prior to surgery. Good hygiene is essential, and you may be given advice on hair removal in the area before the procedure. Smoking cessation and reduced alcohol intake further support healing. For procedures under general anaesthetic, fasting from midnight before surgery is required.

  • Practical Arrangements:
Because you will feel sore and swollen afterwards, it is advisable to arrange for someone to collect you and help at home for at least the first 24 hours. Loose, breathable underwear and clothing will help minimise rubbing on the area.

Surgery & Immediate Aftercare

  • Anaesthesia & Procedure:
Labiaplasty usually takes 1–2 hours. Under local anaesthetic with or without sedation, or a brief general anaesthetic, the area is numbed and carefully reshaped. Excess tissue is removed, and the edges are sutured with fine dissolvable stitches. Care is taken to preserve sensation and avoid over-reduction, aiming for symmetry and a natural contour.

  • Dressings & Comfort:
You will have a light dressing or absorbent pad in place. Swelling, bruising and stinging discomfort when moving or passing urine are common in the first few days, but these can be managed with simple pain relief, cold packs and saltwater bathing as advised. Keeping the area clean and dry is very important.

Recovery, Results & Follow‑Up

  • Early Recovery (Weeks 1–2):
Swelling and bruising are usually most noticeable in the first week and then gradually subside. You should avoid tight clothing, prolonged sitting and vigorous exercise. Washing the area gently and patting dry, as instructed, supports healing. Most patients can return to desk-based work after around 1 week.

  • Resuming Activities:
Strenuous exercise, cycling, horse riding, swimming, tampon use and sexual intercourse should be avoided for around 4–6 weeks, or until cleared by the team. This allows tissues to heal properly and minimises the risk of wound problems or discomfort.

  • Healing & Outcome:
It can take several weeks for swelling to fully settle and the final shape to be apparent. Scars are usually fine and well concealed within the natural folds of the labia. Most women report a significant reduction in discomfort and improved body confidence once fully healed.

  • Follow-Up Appointments:
You will be reviewed at around 1–2 weeks after surgery, with a further review at 3–6 months to assess the final result and address any concerns. The team remains available to support you throughout recovery.
