Brow Lift

Our brow lift service gently elevates a heavy or low-set brow, softening forehead lines and opening up the eye area to restore a more awake, relaxed and approachable expression.

Mr Andrew Pieri and his team offers brow lift surgery for patients whose drooping brow or deep forehead lines make them look tired, stern or older than they feel. By carefully lifting and supporting the brow, often through discreet incisions in the hairline, he aims to refresh the upper face while preserving natural movement and expression.

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, or forehead lift, is a procedure to raise the position of the eyebrows and smooth the forehead. As we age, the brow can descend, causing hooding over the upper eyelids and deepening of frown lines. This can give a permanently tired, worried or cross appearance.

There are several brow lift techniques, including endoscopic (keyhole) brow lift using small incisions hidden within the hair, and open techniques that involve an incision along or just behind the hairline. The underlying tissues are lifted and secured, and sometimes selective weakening of the muscles responsible for frowning is performed. The aim is to elevate the brow to a more youthful, natural position without over-arching or freezing the expression.

Brow lift surgery can be performed alone or combined with eyelid surgery or face lift, depending on the pattern of ageing and your individual goals.

What to Expect from Brow Lift Surgery

Consultation & Preparation

  • Assessment & Planning:
During your consultation, Mr Andrew Pieri will assess your brow position, forehead lines and the relationship between your brows and upper eyelids. Photographs are taken to help plan the degree and direction of lift. You will discuss your goals in detail, including how much change you would like and how to maintain natural expression.

  • Pre-operative Guidelines:
You will be advised to stop smoking and avoid certain medications that increase bleeding risk. As brow lift is usually undertaken under general anaesthetic, you will need to fast from midnight and follow specific instructions about any regular medications.

  • Practical Arrangements:
Arrange for someone to collect you after surgery and stay with you initially. You may wish to have soft headbands or loose hats on hand for the early recovery phase, as swelling and mild bruising of the forehead and upper eyelids are common.

Surgery & Immediate Aftercare

  • Anaesthesia & Procedure:
Brow lift surgery typically takes 1.5–2.5 hours. Depending on the technique chosen, small incisions are made within the hair-bearing scalp (endoscopic) or along the hairline. The forehead and brow tissues are carefully released, lifted and secured in a higher position with sutures or fixation devices. The incisions are closed with sutures or staples.

  • Dressings & Comfort:
A light head dressing may be applied. Swelling, a feeling of tightness and mild to moderate discomfort are normal, as is temporary numbness of the scalp and forehead. These symptoms improve gradually with time. Pain is usually manageable with standard pain relief, and keeping the head elevated helps reduce swelling.

Recovery, Results & Follow‑Up

  • Early Recovery (Weeks 1–2):
Swelling and bruising typically peak within the first few days and then improve steadily. Sutures or staples are usually removed after 7–10 days, depending on the technique. Many patients are able to return to desk-based work around this time.

  • Resuming Activities:
Strenuous exercise and activities that raise blood pressure should be avoided for at least 2–3 weeks. Hair colouring and heat styling near the incisions should be delayed until healing is well established and you have been given specific guidance.

  • Healing & Outcome:
As swelling settles, the brow position appears more natural and the forehead looks smoother and more relaxed. Scars are concealed within the hair or along the hairline and typically fade over several months. Most patients feel they look less tired or stern and more like themselves again.

  • Follow-Up Appointments:
You will be reviewed after surgery and at intervals over the following months to monitor healing, provide scar care advice and ensure you are pleased with your result.
